The Restorative Effects of Virtual Reality Forests on Elderly Individuals During the COVID-19 Lockdown

This study focuses on the restorative effects of immersive virtual reality (VR) forest experiences elderly people during COVID-19 lockdown. A field experiment with 63 participants was conducted in an care institution China. The results showed that a five-minute VR experience three minutes subsequent reliving can bring immediate psychological improvements (i.e., increased positive affect, decreased negative and enhanced stress recovery) to individuals. affect decrease recovery enhancement were more obvious among introverted Furthermore, participating over 3 consecutive days continuous improvements. Moreover, short unable significantly blood pressure participants. improvement also nonsignificant. Additionally, increase participants’ intentions undertake real therapy.
